Philip J. Laffey, Esq.
Philip was born in Providence, Rhode Island and received his B.A. in Justice, cum laude, from American University in Washington, D.C. While at American, Philip was a Presidential Scholar and founding brother of the Eta Phi chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. Philip earned an M.A. in Criminology from the University of Maryland, where he published the article “Judicial Compliance with Sentencing Guidelines” for the National Institute of Corrections. Before attending law school, Philip worked as a policy analyst for the Maryland State Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy, working closely with judges, attorneys and the legislature to develop criminal justice policy.
Philip graduated, with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law. While at the University of Connecticut, Philip served as the Executive Director of the 60+ member Connecticut Moot Court Board. Philip was a finalist in the Thurgood Marshall National Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the Federal Bar Association, and earned a CALI Excellence Award for his work in Advanced Torts.
Philip enjoys working with individuals and businesses small and large to provide competent advice and achieve their legal goals. His areas of practice include civil litigation; appellate advocacy; business planning and consulting; zoning, planning and land use; residential and commercial leasing and development; commercial and residential real estate transactions; and landlord-tenant law. He proudly serves on the Ethics and Professionalism Committee of the Rhode Island Bar Association. Philip is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
